Occasional travellers: validating your transport with your bank card is now possible

Key points

  • The bank card now allows you to buy a breakdown ticket on board almost all buses in Paris and the inner suburbs
  • From 30 June 2026, it also allows you to pay for your ticket directly at the exit of the station at Orly Airport
  • On 8 July, it will be possible to validate by credit card on the Montmartre funicular
  • It's a troubleshooting solution: no connections included, higher fare than traditional tickets
  • To prepare for a stay in Île-de-France, tickets are still available on the Île-de-France Mobilités app, the Navigo Easy pass or the Wallet

Credit card payment terminal on a bus in Île-de-France

A safety net for tourists and hyper-casual travellers

50 million tourists visit the Île-de-France region every year. Most of them are familiar with Ile-de-France transport tickets and know where to buy them - vending machine, ticket office, app. But it can happen to get on a bus without the right ticket, to disembark at Orly airport on line 14 with an unsuitable ticket, that you can't find an ATM at the right time.

It is precisely for these situations that Île-de-France Mobilités deploys credit card purchase terminals directly on board and in the station.

  • Validate in one gesture with your card - physical, or dematerialized on a smartphone
  • No app, no account, no currency
  • When boarding or in front of a validator, all you have to do is bring your card close to buy a ticket to board
  • Possibility to validate for yourself and up to 4 additional people (i.e. five simultaneous travellers)
  • A solution with no transfers included, at a higher price than traditional tickets, but a solution to help out

What are the fees for credit card validation?

  • Bus and funicular: price of an SMS boarding ticket + €0.50 (i.e. €2.55 at 2026 prices)
  • Metro/train/RER: price of a metro/train/RER ticket + €0.80 (i.e. €3.35 at 2026 prices)
  • Airports: Airports ticket price + €0.80 (i.e. €14.80 at 2026 prices)

To prepare for a stay in Île-de-France, tickets are still available on the Île-de-France Mobilités app or the Navigo Easy pass, including before arrival.

At Orly Airport, from 30 June 2026, on the Montmartre Funicular from 8 July

Ten years of the ticketing revolution for those who finance the network on a daily basis

Since 2019, Île-de-France Mobilités has gradually dematerialised all ticketing in the Ile-de-France region, in particular tickets for occasional travellers: Navigo Easy and Liberté + on smartphones, the end of the cardboard ticket. As a result, 100% of new occasional tickets are now purchased on smartphones or Navigo passes. This first step first benefited the people of the Ile-de-France region, those who take transport every week, finance the network, and for whom every minute at the ticket office counted.
