MétroLine 1

ExtensionChâteau de Vincennes < > Val de Fontenay

What if we did nothing or if we did something differently?

What if we didn't do anything?

The bus network would continue to play an essential role in feeder to the transport hubs of Château de Vincennes, Vincennes and Val de Fontenay. However, the possibilities for significant improvement of this service would remain limited by the characteristics of the territory and the roads. The consequences and socio-economic issues that emerge from this would be the following:

  • access to employment, studies and services that would remain less direct for the inhabitants of Rigollots and Grands Pêchers;
  • a gap in accessibility that would widen with neighbouring areas already served by the metro, the RER, and, in the future, metro line 15;
  • an incomplete response to the issues of service and territorial equity identified in the diagnosis.

What if we did it differently?

Several alternatives to the extension of the metro have been studied: meeting travel needs, feasibility, transport capacity, travel time, cost, land and tree impacts.

  • Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) — would require approximately 27 m of road width; its insertion would involve demolishing around 480 buildings over nearly 5 km and would impact 200 trees in line with rue de Fontenay in Vincennes.
  • Tramway — the steep slopes of the area (>10%) make this solution technically unfeasible.

At the end of this comparison, the project owner selected the underground metro as the only solution that would meet the needs in the long term.
