Walk the route

The project to extend metro line 1, presented to a public inquiry in 2022, aimed to serve 3 new stations over nearly 5 km:

• A first Les Rigollots* station, in Fontenay-sous-Bois,
• A Grands Pêchers intermediate station*, in Montreuil,
• And a terminus station Val de Fontenay*, in Fontenay-sous-Bois.

*Station names are provisional.

Route presented to the public inquiry in 2022

The main principles of drawing up the route

The route was drawn up taking into account the characteristics of the rolling stock, the regulations relating to tunnels and the specific constraints of the construction and operation of a metro line: radii of curvature, slopes, tunnel depth, etc.

The locations envisaged for the stations were selected with regard to several other characteristics:

• The quality of the urban service (population and jobs served within a radius of 800 m, facilities served, development projects, urban integration),
• Transport optimisation (needs to be met, links with existing transport, quality of connections, traffic estimates),
• The technical feasibility (impacts of the project on public and private land, built and unbuilt, impacts of the works, conditions of implementation with regard to the relief and the urban fabric),
• Investment costs (infrastructure and rolling stock).

From Château de Vincennes to Les Rigollots

Between the stations Château de Vincennes (current terminus of line 1) and Les Rigollots, the route of the extension of Metro 1 crosses the northern limit of the Bois de Vincennes, passes under the RER A and continues north along the municipal boundary between Vincennes and Fontenay-sous-Bois. This part of the route is about 1.5 km long.

The crossing of the Bois de Vincennes

As the rear station of the current Château de Vincennes terminus is located under the Bois de Vincennes, it is impossible to bypass it to build the extension. The project owners have adopted constructive provisions to avoid surface impacts on the wood as much as possible. In the end, the surface area of the work has been optimised: of the 1.4 hectares concerned by the surface works, only 0.8 hectares of woods and rows of trees will be cleared (the rest corresponding to lawn or roads). Numerous environmental measures are planned to reduce and compensate for the impact of the extension on the Bois de Vincennes. To find out more +: consult the page dedicated to the Bois de Vincennes

From Les Rigollots to Grands Pêchers

After the resort of Les Rigollots, the route continues for about 1.2 km. It passes northwest of Fontenay-sous-Bois to reach the south of Montreuil. The Grands Pêchers station will be located between Rue Lenain de Tillemont and Boulevard Théophile Sueur.

Great Peach Trees in Val de Fontenay

Between the Grands Pêchers and Val de Fontenay resorts, the extension continues for about 2.1 km. The route passes through the north of Fontenay-sous-Bois, on the southern edge of Montreuil, and crosses the A86 motorway, the RER E tracks and the Line 15 East tunnel underground to arrive at its terminus in Val de Fontenay. The new station will be located under the Péripôle business park.

From Val de Fontenay to the Train Breakdown Centre

When the extension of Metro 1 is commissioned, the Val de Fontenay station will be the new terminus of Metro 1. It will require the development of a rear station allowing trains to be turned around and stored. The rear station will continue the route for about 600 metres after the station to reach the future train breakdown centre (CDT) dedicated to train maintenance. This CDT is located in Neuilly-Plaisance, on the La Fontaine du Vaisseau business park, on the edge of Fontenay-sous-Bois. The location of this structure, initially planned for the La Pointe business park, has been reviewed following the in-depth studies carried out on the project.
