Do I need a t+ ticket or an origin-destination ticket?

Do you have a journey to make and would you like to know if you need a t+ ticket or an Origin-Destination ticket ?

t+ ticket

The t+ ticket is a transport ticket valid for journeys within the city (mainly Paris and the inner suburbs). It is suitable for the following routes:

  • RER and trains in Paris only (zone 1);
  • Metro (all network except Orly Airport station on line 14);
  • Buses and trams throughout Île-de-France (except T11, T12, T13);
  • Montmartre funicular.

Examples of how to use the t+ ticket :

  • A metro ride from Gare du Nord station to Vincennes station.
  • A bus ride from La Défense to the Gare de Lyon.
  • A tram ride from Porte de Vincennes to Saint-Denis.

Note: if a t+ ticket is sufficient for your journey, then Navigo Liberté + is also sufficient.

Origin-Destination Ticket

The Origin-Destination ticket, on the other hand, is used for specific journeys on the RER or Transilien train that go beyond Paris (zone 1), i.e. for journeys between two stations located outside Paris or between Paris and another city in the Île-de-France region.

Examples of use of the Origin-Destination ticket :

  • A RER journey from Gare du Nord station to Vincennes station.
  • A train ride from Gare de Lyon to Fontainebleau-Avon.
  • A journey by RER from Aulnay-sous-Bois station to Saint-Germain-en-Laye station.

In short

  • Use a t+ ticket for travel by metro, bus, tram, or RER within Paris.
  • Use an Origin-Destination ticket for RER or train journeys that involve travel between different cities or beyond zones 1-2.
